Public Relations and Communications Services (PRCS) InternAt — Riverside County Office of Education
Riverside County Office of Education offers a series of opportunities and on-the-job training across a number of professional sectors within the organization such as the Office of the Riverside County Superintendent of Schools (ORCSS) Administrative and Business Services; Educational Services, Early Education Services, Governmental Relations, Information Technology Services, Personnel Services, and Student Programs & Services. RCOE provides a supportive environment to assist selected students in maximizing their abilities and opportunities as they explore their career options. In this setting, each Student Intern will rotate throughout various sectors, not to exceed one school year, in collaboration with business leaders and staff in the field. The Intern, ORCSS shall be a current college student and will serve as a temporary part-time hourly employee as defined in Education Code 45103 (a) (3) and shall not be a part of the classified service. It is the intent of RCOE to employ college/university undergraduate and/or graduate students to fill these positions. The Intern, ORCSS student intern works closely with the Office of the Riverside County Superintendent of Schools staff and various unit supervisors.
FUNCTIONS:
• Understands the overall mission and vision of the organization, including the brand, goals, and all other aspects of service. (E)
• Understands and applies Board Policies and Administrative Regulations that pertain to employment in RCOE.
• Rotates at least once through divisions and contributes ideas. (E)
• Engages with county staff, community, and industry partners and provides service. (E)
• Provides suggestions to leadership for improving service and internal processes. (E)
• Learns and becomes skillful in industry area systems. (E)
• Assists in tasks such as projects, reports, and other division specific assignments. (E)
• Completes required documentation. (E)
• Makes appropriate referrals.
• Provides awareness of opportunities in RCOE and services to the community.
• Performs job assignment safely for the purpose of protecting people and property. (E)
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE of and correct usage of English composition, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary in both written and verbal communications; research and data collection; using spreadsheets; scheduling and coordinating activities; compiling and composing documents; preparing and delivering presentations, including utilization of current technologies; and highly collaborative.
SKILLS are required to perform professional level tasks with a need to frequently upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
Tasks:
* Interview and write narrative profile stories on students/staff/programs
* Learn content management systems for posting online
* Contribute to team culture and lead stand-up meeting
* Research best practices for county offices of education
* Identify unique opportunities for promoting award-winning students and staff
* Learn from Creative Services and Web Services staff about career opportunities in school communications
* Assist with event planning, preparation, execution, and post-event support
Training:
* Access to Monthly leadership seminars for all summer interns
* Attendance at California School Public Relations Inland Empire/Orange County Regional Professional Development Day
Learning Outcome:
* Identify and contribute to strategies and tactics that promote the value and impact of TK-12 public education in Riverside County.
* Develop and post content for internal and external-facing websites and publications
* Participate in event planning, production, and execution activities related to communications, marketing, and public relations
