PSYC 481 Undergraduate Course Asst Internship- CalderonAt — CSUF - College of Humanities & Social Science

Student will assist with undergraduate course assistant duties with Dr. Calderon for her PSYC 481 (Survey of Clinical Psychology) in-person course. Working under the supervision of Dr. Calderon, the student will assist with course organization, facilitate student engagement, and provide administrative and instructional support. Throughout the semester, the student will develop competencies in professionalism, educational support, ethical conduct, and effective communication while reflecting on the role of teaching in psychology. Student will be expected to attend class sessions and meet regularly with Dr. Calderon for supervision.

Learning Outcomes  

By the end of the internship, the student (Course Assistant) will be able to:
1. Demonstrate professionalism by reliably completing assigned responsibilities, communicating effectively with the instructor, and maintaining ethical standards consistent with university policies.
2. Apply psychological knowledge by accurately explaining course concepts to students during office hours, review sessions, or classroom activities.
3. Develop instructional skills by assisting with course preparation, co-facilitating classroom activities, and supporting student learning.
4. Strengthen communication and interpersonal skills by interacting respectfully and professionally with students from diverse backgrounds and responding appropriately to questions and concerns.

Training  

To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, the instructor (Dr. Calderon) will:
1. Offer weekly or biweekly supervision meetings to review responsibilities, discuss challenges, and provide individualized mentoring.
2. Provide students with opportunities for progressive participation in course activities, beginning with observation and moving toward greater responsibility as competence develops.
3. Deliver constructive verbal and written feedback on performance throughout the semester.
4. Orient student to course expectations, university policies, and professional ethics.

Tasks/Duties  

The intern will demonstrate the learning outcomes by:
- Assisting instructor with grading of assignments and exams, with final approval of grades resting on the instructor.
- Holding a regular office hour (1) to support students in the course.
- Assisting students with understanding course-related assignments.
- Posting course updates and announcements to students on Canvas.
- Updating course materials.
- Co-facilitating classroom activities with instructor according to student interest.
- Participate in weekly check-ins with instructor to discuss progress and teaching practices.
