Students begin with an orientation to CityHeART's philosophy of investing in stories through hospitality, belonging, and community. Training includes welcoming and engaging guests, strengths-based and trauma-informed practices, professional boundaries and confidentiality, cultural humility, safety procedures, and the responsibilities of their assigned role. Students learn alongside experienced staff and volunteers through observation, guided practice, and ongoing mentorship, with regular opportunities for reflection, feedback, and continued skill development.
Students will receive an orientation to site safety procedures, emergency protocols, confidentiality, professional boundaries, and trauma-informed engagement before beginning service. Students are never expected to respond to emergencies independently or perform duties beyond their training. Any safety concerns should be reported immediately to the site supervisor.
