Marketing/Design Intern: History in the NeighborhoodAt — Brea Museum & Historical Society
The Brea Museum is seeking a marketing or communications student to develop a new promotional system that brings the Museum directly into the community through its network of retail and business sponsors.
The intern will design a series of single-page promotional posters that can be displayed in local stores, restaurants, cafés, professional offices, and other participating businesses. The posters will introduce customers to the Museum, promote specific programs and exhibits, highlight local history, and encourage residents to visit, participate, become members, donate, or share their own stories.
Tasks:
1. Develop a poster campaign that includes strong headlines, interesting photographs or graphics, museum branding, QR codes, website information, and sponsor recognition.
2. Create 12-20 finished posters on themes that include \\You are standing in history\\, \\Did you know\\, \\Brea, then and now\\, \\Can you identify this place\\, and others.
3. Build a retail sponsor toolkit that includes poster templates, business partner information sheets, QR code instructions, social media language, business acknowledgement information and tracking sheets.
4. Develop a business recognition strategy that promotes \\This Business is a Brea Museum Community History Partner\\
5. Measure results including number of participating businesses, number of posters distributed, QR code scans, website visits, social media engagement.
Training:
Interns will be trained to evaluate and select historic material from the Museum's archival collection to use in designing a specific promotional campaign for each business sponsor.
Interns will be trained to identify the different museum audiences through our membership lists and determine what type of marketing campaign will best reach them.
The intern will be trained to research the story behind historical material using our collection database and other source material to write compelling marketing copy.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Design, draft, and launch a promotional poster campaign to market the Museum to the community.
2. Establish a strong relationship between the Museum and local businesses.
3. Learn how to adapt the Museum's mission and message for different audiences.
