Key Responsibilities
- Create digital marketing materials to support FPOC programs, events, fundraising campaigns, volunteer opportunities, community outreach, and other organizational initiatives.
- Design flyers, digital graphics, promotional materials, presentations, and other branded marketing content using Canva or similar platforms.
- Create engaging social media content, including graphics, captions, stories, reels, short-form videos, and promotional posts.
- Assist with the day-to-day management of FPOC’s social media platforms, including scheduling and publishing content and maintaining an active and consistent online presence.
- Develop and maintain a social media content calendar to ensure timely and consistent communications.
- Support mass email communications and email marketing campaigns, including creating email content, formatting communications, coordinating distribution lists, and scheduling emails.
- Assist with developing newsletters, announcements, event promotions, donor communications, and other digital outreach materials.
- Help maintain consistent branding, messaging, and visual identity across FPOC’s digital marketing materials and communication channels.
- Monitor social media engagement and basic analytics, including reach, impressions, engagement, and audience growth.
- Research social media and digital marketing trends and recommend creative ways to increase FPOC’s visibility and community engagement.
- Capture and edit photos and videos at FPOC programs, events, and community activities as appropriate.
- Collaborate with FPOC staff to identify upcoming programs, events, stories, and organizational updates that should be promoted.
- Support digital storytelling that highlights FPOC’s programs and impact while protecting the privacy, confidentiality, and dignity of the families we serve.
- Assist with additional marketing, communications, and outreach projects as needed.
Tasks:
The student will perform professional and pre-professional digital marketing and communications duties that provide opportunities to apply academic knowledge, develop technical skills, exercise creativity, and demonstrate achievement of the internship learning outcomes. Duties will include:
Digital Marketing Material Development – Design professional digital marketing materials such as flyers, event promotions, program materials, campaign graphics, presentations, and other branded communications using Canva or similar design platforms.
Social Media Content Creation & Management – Develop, schedule, and publish content across FPOC’s social media platforms, including graphics, captions, stories, reels, and short-form videos. Assist with maintaining a consistent organizational voice, brand, and posting schedule.
Content Calendar Development – Create and maintain a social media and digital communications calendar that incorporates organizational programs, events, campaigns, community partnerships, and relevant awareness initiatives.
Email Marketing & Mass Communications – Support the development and distribution of mass email communications, including newsletters, organizational announcements, event promotions, fundraising communications, and community outreach campaigns.
Marketing Campaign Development – Assist in planning and implementing digital marketing campaigns that support FPOC’s programs, fundraising efforts, volunteer recruitment, events, and community engagement goals.
Digital Analytics & Performance Evaluation – Monitor social media and digital campaign performance using available analytics. Track metrics such as reach, impressions, engagement, and audience growth, and use findings to recommend improvements to future content and campaigns.
Content Strategy & Research – Research current digital marketing practices, nonprofit communications strategies, social media trends, and audience engagement techniques. Apply relevant findings to FPOC’s communications efforts.
Digital Storytelling – Develop mission-driven content that communicates FPOC’s programs, services, partnerships, and community impact while following organizational standards regarding confidentiality, privacy, and the dignity of the families served.
Photography & Video Content – Assist with capturing and editing appropriate photo and video content from FPOC programs, events, and community activities for use in digital communications and social media.
Professional Collaboration & Project Management – Participate in planning meetings, collaborate with staff on marketing needs, manage assigned projects and deadlines, present creative ideas, incorporate supervisor feedback, and revise work to meet professional standards.
These responsibilities are designed so that more than 80% of the student’s internship activities are professional or pre-professional in nature, with an emphasis on applying digital marketing concepts, developing professional work products, analyzing results, and progressively taking greater ownership of marketing and communications projects.
Training:
Students will receive structured training and ongoing support throughout the internship to ensure they are equipped to meet the learning objectives of the placement. Training and supervision will include:
General Employer Orientation: An initial orientation to Family Promise of Orange County (FPOC), including our mission, programs, organizational structure, workplace expectations, policies and procedures, confidentiality, and the populations we serve.
Marketing & Communications Orientation: An overview of FPOC’s brand, communication style, target audiences, existing marketing strategies, social media platforms, and digital communication tools.
One-on-One Supervision: Regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings with the student’s supervisor or designated mentor to review assignments, discuss progress, provide feedback, address questions, and identify professional development opportunities.
Hands-On Training & Job Shadowing: Students will receive guidance and demonstrations on creating digital marketing materials, developing social media content, managing social media platforms, supporting mass email communications, and using relevant marketing and design tools.
Work Samples & Templates: Students will be provided with examples of previous social media posts, marketing materials, email communications, brand guidelines, and templates to help establish expectations for quality and consistency.
Assignment Context & Feedback: Supervisors will provide background, objectives, intended audiences, and desired outcomes for assigned projects. Students will receive constructive feedback and opportunities to revise their work, allowing them to strengthen their skills throughout the placement.
Progressive Independence: As students demonstrate proficiency, they will be given increased responsibility and opportunities to independently develop content, contribute creative ideas, and manage assigned marketing and social media projects.
