COMPASS Program InternAt — COMPASS Program: Defined Bioscience Inc
Must be enrolled in BIOT 497 and a participant in the COMPASS PROGRAM.
Defined interns from the COMPASS program will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on research in stem cell culture and gain first-hand experience at a young biotech company in Sorrento Valley. Projects will focus on Defined’s mission of developing fully defined, animal/serum-free, and low-cost ingredients for stem cell culture. Interns will work closely with the Defined Bioscience team, acquiring direct laboratory experience and training in rigorous and precise stem cell culture methods and applications.
Collectively, this will include routine culture and maintenance of a variety of stem cell lines, assessment of novel reagents via cell viability/cytometric analysis/karyotyping, downstream differentiation and expansion for a variety of applications, production of protein growth factors using recombinant expression systems and chromatography/analyses, and maintenance of reagents, equipment, and protocols. Additionally, as a Defined Bioscience team member, Jannah will participate in frequent presentations at group meetings for project assessment. Furthermore, the Defined Bioscience team has a wide range of collective experiences, including scientific research, entrepreneurship, and business management, and intends to actively engage its interns in discussions of life and career goals.
