We are seeking a motivated intern to gain hands-on, pre-professional experience across vision therapy, optometric patient care, and healthcare marketing. Interns will work directly with our clinical team, assisting with vision therapy sessions, shadowing exams and procedures, and supporting marketing and patient outreach initiatives, gaining a well-rounded introduction to both the clinical and business sides of a specialized eye care practice.
Tasks:
Assist with vision therapy sessions under supervision, including setup of therapy equipment, guiding patients through exercises, and tracking/documenting patient progress toward therapy goals
Shadow Dr. Sharieff and clinical staff during optometric exams, vision therapy evaluations, and neuro-optometric procedures to observe diagnostic and treatment methods
Support optometric pre-testing, including preparing patients for exams and assisting with basic diagnostic equipment under supervision
Assist in developing marketing content for the practice, including drafting social media posts, creating promotional materials, and supporting patient outreach campaigns
Track and report on the performance of marketing initiatives (e.g., engagement on social posts, outreach response rates) to identify what resonates with patients
Assist with organizing and maintaining vision therapy equipment and exam rooms to ensure smooth patient flow and readiness for sessions
Participate in weekly one-on-one meetings with supervisor to review completed tasks, discuss learning progress, and receive new weekly assignments
Contribute to team meetings by sharing observations from shadowing and offering ideas for improving patient experience or marketing effectiveness
Training:
Interns will begin with a mandatory general orientation covering HIPAA compliance, safety procedures, and practice protocols. Training will be delivered through a combination of instructional videos, direct shadowing of Dr. Sharieff (board-certified optometrist, FCOVD, FNORA) and clinical staff, and hands-on practice under supervision. Interns will be assigned specific tasks and learning goals each week, with a one-on-one meeting at the end of each week to review progress, discuss what was learned, and set goals for the following week. Hands-on training will cover vision therapy techniques, optometric pre-testing and equipment use, and marketing project execution, with ongoing feedback provided by practice leadership throughout the internship.
Learning Outcome:
Explain the principles and techniques used in vision therapy to treat visual skill deficits
Demonstrate an understanding of optometric exam procedures and patient pre-testing protocols
Apply professional communication and patient interaction skills in a clinical healthcare setting
Develop and execute marketing/outreach materials tailored to a healthcare practice audience
