Opportunity Summary
Hands on experience and interactions with patients in a clinical setting. Students will learn about HIPPA laws, keeping medical records safe and accessible, dealing with insurance, pharmacies, referring to other specialties, setting up for procedures, assisting physician and PA's
Tasks:
- Schedule appointments to follow up the providers
- Understanding patient description of chief complaints
- Set up of labs and procedures
- Assist patients understand home-care instructions post-surgery.
- Coordinate patient care given insurance restrictions.
- Know proper sterilization methods of instruments
- Professional interactions with patients and staff given HIPPA laws
- Efficiently use the electronic health records system (EHR)
Training:
Patient will receive orientation to understand training goals, safety protocols, and proper patient interactions. Training will be provided by providers and senior employees. Reviews of procedures and progress is made weekly for improvement and improved understanding.
Learning Outcomes:
- Gain valuable hands-on experience in an actual medical clinic
- Knowledge of EHR, HIPPA, insurance (HMO, PPO, Medicare, Medi-cal)
