Youth Development InternAt — Boys and Girls Club of Menifee Valley

The Boys & Girls Club is seeking enthusiastic and dependable university students who are interested in working with children and teens and gaining hands-on experience in youth development, education, mentoring, and community service.

Youth Development Interns will support the Club's daily programming by assisting members with homework, participating in Power Hour, supporting educational and enrichment activities, and helping create a positive, safe, and encouraging environment for youth.

Tasks:

Under the guidance of Club staff, interns may:
-Assist Club members with homework and school assignments.
-Support Power Hour, the Club's academic success and homework-help program.
-Provide encouragement and one-on-one or small-group academic assistance.
-Help facilitate educational, recreational, enrichment, and youth development activities.
-Build positive and supportive relationships with Club members.
-Encourage participation, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and positive behavior.
-Assist staff with preparing and organizing activities and program materials.
-Participate in group activities, games, arts and crafts, STEM activities, and other Club programming.
-Help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for children and teens.
-Model positive behavior, responsibility, respect, and leadership.
-Communicate with Club staff regarding member participation, needs, and progress.
-Follow all Boys & Girls Club policies and procedures, including safety, confidentiality, supervision, and appropriate interactions with youth.
-Complete any assignments, reflections, evaluations, or documentation required.

Training:

Interns will be required to complete online BGCA trainings and will have weekly check ins with the Site Director to go over responsibilities and needs for the week. They will also have the opportunity to participate in any Youth Development trainings that take place during their time interning. Regular check-ins.

Learning Outcome:

-Apply positive youth development principles to build supportive, respectful, and meaningful relationships with children and teens.
-Develop and use effective strategies for academic support, including assisting youth with homework, encouraging participation in Power Hour, and helping members develop positive study habits.
-Demonstrate effective communication and relationship-building skills when interacting with youth, families, peers, and Boys & Girls Club staff.
-Develop leadership and group facilitation skills by assisting with and leading age-appropriate educational, recreational, and youth development activities.
-Demonstrate professional responsibility in a youth-serving environment, including reliability, teamwork, appropriate boundaries, confidentiality, safety practices, and responding appropriately to the individual needs of youth.
