Primary Prevention InternAt — Integrated Primary Prevention Workforce

The intern will assist with prevention activities, workshops, and outreach events; prepare educational materials and resources; and support the collection, organization, and summary of program data. Additional duties may include supporting surveys, evaluations, and participation tracking; researching evidence-based prevention practices and resources; assisting with administrative and program coordination tasks; and participating in team meetings and collaborative prevention projects.

Here are some of the items the intern may assist with to gain hands-on experience in primary prevention:

Assist with prevention activities, workshops, and outreach events.
Research evidence-based prevention strategies and resources.
Assist with data collection, organization, and program evaluation.
Develop educational materials, presentations, and prevention resources.
Support surveys, participant feedback, and activity evaluations.
Participate in team meetings and prevention planning.
Support community and military engagement activities.
Assist with special projects related to primary prevention, organizational climate, and well-being.

Training:

The student will receive an initial orientation to the Integrated Primary Prevention Workforce (IPPW), including its mission, programs, and role within the organization. Training will include job shadowing, one-on-one mentoring, hands-on participation in prevention activities and workshops, and guidance on assigned projects. The student will also receive training in data collection, program evaluation, evidence-based prevention practices, outreach, and organizational climate. Regular check-ins, feedback, and opportunities to observe and participate in team meetings and prevention initiatives will support continued learning throughout the placement.

1. Understand Primary Prevention – Learn how prevention strategies are used to reduce risk and strengthen protective factors.

2. Develop Program Evaluation Skills – Gain experience collecting and reviewing data to help measure the effectiveness of prevention activities.

3. Build Community Engagement Skills – Learn how to collaborate with military organizations and community partners to support a healthy organizational climate.
