Mental Health is a residential treatment center

Monitoring safety: Conduct safety checks (such as Q15 checks every 15 minutes), observe patient behavior, and monitor for contraband.

Daily living support: Assist patients with basic needs like personal hygiene, dressing, and meals.

Clinical assistance: Record vital signs, assist with medication management, and document daily progress in patient charts.
Therapeutic activities: Help facilitate or co-lead group therapy sessions, recreational activities, and community meetings.

Crisis Intervention and OperationsCrisis response: De-escalate tense or aggressive situations and provide immediate support during distress.
Administrative duties: Assist with the intake and discharge process, review shift communication logs, and transport clients when necessary.
Team collaboration: Report patient concerns and progress to licensed counselors, nurses, and psychiatrists.

Training:

weekly scheduled one-on-one mentor meetings, job shadowing, workshops/skills training, provision of work samples, overview/contextualization of assigned tasks, training literature reviews and testing.

Learning Outcome

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to do a intake, medication audit, time logs, and shift pass.
