Technical Sales Engineer InternAt — CISCO
Interned on Cisco's SLED technical sales team, applying computer science fundamentals to design, prototype, and demonstrate technical solutions for public sector and higher education customers. Designed a scheduling integration connecting university learning management systems (via LTI) to Webex Control Hub, including middleware architecture, API interactions, and data flow between platforms. Built and delivered technical demonstrations of ThousandEyes network observability, analyzing network path and performance data to diagnose connectivity issues. Worked with Splunk for data analysis and visibility use cases. Wrote technical reference documentation for higher education customer scenarios. For the capstone, designed and prototyped Corro, an AI tool for account teams, covering system architecture, build vs. buy vs. hybrid evaluation, and a working prototype presented to Cisco leadership.
Through this internship I aim to strengthen my ability to apply computer science fundamentals in a customer facing technical role. Specifically, I want to deepen my understanding of system integration and API design through my Webex Control Hub and LTI scheduling project, build hands on skills in network observability and data analysis using ThousandEyes and Splunk, and learn how to evaluate and prototype AI solutions through my capstone project, Corro. Beyond the technical work, my goal is to turn this experience into a full time role after graduating in May 2027. I have a guaranteed interview for Cisco's Sales Associates Program (Associate Solutions Engineer role), with the assessment center scheduled for October 6 to 8, 2026. I plan to prepare using the assessment materials I have, including technical presentation briefs and customer role play scenarios, so I can clearly demonstrate the skills I built during the internship and earn a return offer. I also want to use this experience to explore the wider industry by reaching out to other companies in sales engineering and solutions consulting. That way I can compare opportunities and make an informed decision about where I can grow the most early in my career.
