Opportunity Summary 

Uniquely United is seeking college student volunteers to support an inclusive, adapted soccer program for children ages 3–12 with disabilities and neurodivergent children.  Volunteers will work alongside trained coaches to create a positive, welcoming, and supportive recreational experience.

Students will gain hands-on experience supporting children with different communication, sensory, behavioral, and learning needs while participating in soccer activities.

Responsibilities may include:

  • assisting with warm-ups and drills,
  • providing individual support,
  • helping implement visual supports and sensory accommodations,
  • encouraging participation,
  • assisting with transitions and breaks, and
  • helping with equipment setup and cleanup.

This opportunity is especially valuable for students interested in psychology, education, special education, kinesiology, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, social work, recreation, child development, and related fields.

We are looking for volunteers that can participate for the duration of 8 weeks (9/7/2026-10/28/2026).

Opportunity Training 

Volunteers will receive approximately 1–2 hours of initial training led by the Uniquely United Program Director and Head Coach. Training will cover adapted soccer principles, working with neurodivergent children, sensory and communication needs, visual supports, positive behavior support, participant safety, inclusive coaching strategies, and appropriate boundaries. Training will include hands-on practice with common accommodations and coaching scenarios. Volunteers will also receive a volunteer handbook/reference guide and ongoing guidance from program staff throughout the season.

Opportunity Supervision

Students will work directly alongside the Uniquely United Program Director and Head Coach during each session. Staff will provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and support and will be available to assist with participant needs, communication, sensory accommodations, and challenging situations. Volunteers will receive clear responsibilities and expectations before each session, with opportunities to ask questions and receive feedback throughout the program. Staff will maintain direct supervision of the program and participants at all times.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Volunteers will work with children under the direct supervision of Uniquely United staff. All volunteers must follow program safety procedures and maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Participants may have sensory, communication, behavioral, or medical support needs. Volunteers will receive training on emergency procedures, sensory accommodations, and participant support. Parents/guardians remain on-site during sessions. A first-aid kit, trained staff, emergency contacts, and participant medical information will be available. Volunteers are expected to immediately notify program staff of any safety, medical, or behavioral concern.
