Food Justice InternAt — Shift Our Ways Collective (Reseda Location)
SOW’s Youth Development programs offer young adults paid and volunteer opportunities to develop workforce skills through farm-based learning, community outreach, and environmental education while deepening their understanding of regenerative agriculture principles, climate justice, and community engagement. SOW’s youth development programs not only support emerging leaders in the climate justice and environmental sustainability sector, but increases organizational capacity to continue providing free programming and services to local communities. SOW works alongside them at their urban farms to grow nutritious food regeneratively and distribute it out to the community at no cost. Through this partnership, student interns are more than welcome to lead a project of their choosing as long as it connects to the organization's mission, including research.
Through this program, SOW empowers youth on their professional journeys, connecting them to green job opportunities and positive work environments that are conducive to community healing. Student interns will learn how to grow organic produce through regenerative agriculture practices, engage community members, lead volunteers, and contribute to projects onsite.
Our program emphasizes hands on learning, where staff lead, guide, and educate while working through projects with students, interns, and volunteers. Through hands on demonstrations, participants learn skills and gain knowledge to lead tasks such as composting, pest control, planting, and harvesting.
We provide all volunteers and interns with farm safety training by teaching them how to handle tools, how to avoid heat related illnesses, and cultivate a safe environment for our community.
We seek student interns that are eager to contribute to a collective space that centers on sustainable practices, community engagement, and providing resources to local community members,. Applicants should be comfortable working outdoors.
