City of Marina Recreation Department

Program Information

We run year round programs so we would always have opportunities for service learners. New projects always starting and new teenagers always coming in. We have ongoing youth sports leagues that need volunteer coaches and referees. Service Learners can develop small courses for kids, i.e. around cooking, sports, Frisbee golf, skateboarding, computers, music, art.  In each of these instances, CSUMB Service Learners are important role models for the teens.

The City of Marina Youth Program

  • Monday - Friday: 2pm to 6pm
  • Wednesday: 1:30 to 6pm
  • Not open on weekends
  • Spring and Summer Breaks:  11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The Marina Youth Center ages are 5 – 12 yrs. Old.  There is homework time daily from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.  We have a physical awareness program and healthy snack days. We have computers, game systems, pool tables, foos ball and a lot of physical activity.  I would like someone who can work with a group of kids running a program, assist with homework and arts and crafts.  I wish to have consistency, good communication and interacting skills.  But that is also something that could be learned.

The City of Marina Teen Program

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday: 3pm to 6pm
  • Wednesday: 1:30pm to 6pm

Breakfast Club at Teen Center:

  • Monday through Friday: 7am to 8:30am
  • (not offered during the weekends or when MPUSD is on break)

Customer Base: The Teen Center serves a diverse, high-risk and low-income population.  The ages range from 11 – 17, which encompasses middle school and high school grades 6 – 12.

Need:  Our need is to have a service learner who is a self-starter and who can run a recreational after school program for teens.  The service learner would organize a physical activity or mental awareness activity that would be beneficial to teens.  A special program designed for the service learner to coordinate.

Another opportunity is to work on a new innovating program that starts Friday nights from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.  The service learner would be support system to the staff in conducting the program and assist with facilitation and coordination.  The program is called Friday Night Live and would need a strong willed individual.  This program runs once every 2 weeks.
