Program Information

General Description of what students will be doing at this Site:

1. Shadow Clinician/Counselors 2. Create spreadsheets to track referral pathways. 3. Participate in Clinical Supervision 4. Case Management 5. Shadow/Participate in Telehealth sessions 6. Learn/Practice the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) assessment (Get familiarized with all 6 dimensions) 7. Learn to document clinical case notes via AVATAR 8. Have the opportunity to register and become a Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician (RADT) towards Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor (CADC). 9. Learn various Evidence-Based Curriculums when working with Youth/Adults (CBT, Crisis Intervention, Motivational Interviewing, Psycho-education, Relapse Prevention, Seeking Safety, Trauma-Informed Treatment, etc.) 10. Participate in various webinars that will provide a wealth of knowledge on Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders. 11. Help translate documents 12. Collaborate with local community partnerships 13. Contact clients/patients for follow-up questionnaire 14. Research data on Medication Assisted Treatment, Overdose Prevention and best practices with working with Youth with a substance use disorder. 15. Shadow / Engage in therapeutic interventions with clients via Telehealth 16. Learn how to analyze and evaluate a urine analysis (UA) sample. 17. Learn and educate patients on overdose awareness with distribution of Narcan (nasal). 18. Attend staff meetings. 19. Other tasks as assigned. 20. Other awesome learning opportunities that come with the field.

Desired Intern Characteristics: Able to handle difficult clients with a substance use and/or mental health disorder.

Interprofessional opportunities available for the student: Collaboration and Consultation with Federal Probation officers, Hospitals, Nurses, medical professionals, substance use/mental health Clinicians, consultants and other social work, and public health opportunities. Interns will have the opportunity to register as a Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician with a certifying body (CCAPP).
