FellowAt — Community Partners 4 Innovation
Lopez Urban Farm is a 3.5-acre community wellness hub serving families of Pomona’s District 2 through education, food access, and an alternative-economy model rooted in dignity and mutual aid. We activate green space as a learning environment where youth, older adults, and multigenerational families engage in hands-on farming, nutrition education, Indigenous knowledge, and creative placemaking. Our pay-what-you-can approach removes financial barriers while strengthening community ownership and safety for undocumented, houseless, and low-income neighbors. Through weekly food distribution, free cultural programming, and partnerships with local educators, we cultivate healthier ecosystems—both human and ecological. A fellow at Lopez Urban Farm will join a forward-thinking team building a regenerative, people-powered model for community resilience that can be replicated across the region.
By the end of this opportunity, students will have learned how community-rooted food systems strengthen wellness, resilience, and local economies. They will gain hands-on experience in urban agriculture, regenerative land care, and culturally relevant food access; develop skills in community engagement and outdoor education; and understand how alternative-economy models foster dignity and reduce barriers for families in Pomona’s District 2. They will also learn to design and support programs that center equity, mutual aid, and public health in a real-world community farm setting.
Training is done on site and in practice, working alongside our farmers and resource free market sites.
