Close to 7,000 students attend AUSD, with elementary, middle, one K-8, and high schools, an Adult School and Alternative Education school. AUSD encompasses 9.7 square miles of Azusa and parts of Covina and unincorporated Los Angeles County. Program Information Opportunity Title: BSW Intern
Opportunity Summary: This experience will enable social work students to practice skills learned in their coursework and observe professionals at work. Social work field placements give students the opportunity to grow in their field by providing them with practical work experience and knowledge of processes they will likely encounter on the job. Interns will also have the opportunity give back to the community while they hone their skills.
By the end of this opportunity, students will have learned...the social work aspects from an educational perspective and the processes in place to bring social services to studens, families and even staff members.
The following tasks/activities students would be doing for this opportunity:
- Analyze and/or study data
- Assist a professional
- Conduct mapping and/or surveying
- Create curriculum, lesson plans, and/or activities (including physical or hands-on activities)
- Create evaluations, assessments, or survey instruments
- Participate in and/or lead outreach efforts
- Participate in office and/or supervisor meeting
- Shadow a professional
What training will be provided to students to perform these responsibilities? Inters will be shadowing professional staff from the district and guided through various learning opportunities. Inters will be tasked and guided through individual projects which will aid district staff in the organization, outreach and execution of social services programs processes.
How will you provide ongoing support and supervision to students? As part of the check-in process, task for the day, ongoing projects as well as new opportunities will be discussed and organized for interns to participate in. Continues communication and review of progress will be made a the start, during and completion of tasks and projects as well as with observation interns are present for.

Updated Protocols and Mask Requirements
Students are required to wear masks, and it is strongly recommended to wear well-fitting, non-cloth masks of multiple layers with a nose wire.
Masking is now required outdoors where physical distancing is not possible except while eating or drinking.
COVID-19 testing is required for all close contacts permitted to remain in school regardless of vaccination status.
LACDPH strongly recommends all eligible students receive a booster vaccination dose or start their primary vaccine series. Boosters are now approved for those aged 12 and up.
Close contacts of a confirmed COVID-19 case are required to quarantine if:
They are not fully vaccinated.
They are fully vaccinated and booster-eligible but have not yet received their booster dose.
Quarantine may end if the close contact remained symptom-free and either:
10 full days (day 1 is the day after exposure)from close contact have passed, activities may resume on day 11 as long as no symptoms are present.
5 full days (day 1 is the day after exposure) have passed from close contact, and they have a negative COVID-19 viral test collected on day 5. Activities may resume upon receiving negative test results.
Close contacts are not required to quarantine if:
They are asymptomatic.
They are boosted; or
They are fully vaccinated but not yet booster-eligible.
To remain at school, close contacts exempt from quarantine are:
Required to test at a minimum on day 5 after exposure.
Must monitor for symptoms.
Wear upgraded PPE:
Students should wear a non-cloth mask with multiple non-woven layers and a nose wire.
Please provide any safety information specific to this opportunity: Wear a mask and wash your hands. Masks should be worn snugly against your nose and chin with no gaps on the side of your face or nose. Continue to follow health and safety protocols such as washing your hands and maintaining physical distancing. Temperature Scans: Although not required by LACPDH, we continue to temperature scan staff and students as they enter the campus to add an additional layer of protection.
