TRIO Peer MentorAt — Chabot College TRIO Program (SSSP) - Aspire/Excel
We are looking to provide current and past students TRIO students Aspire/Excell students that attend Chabot college the ability to mentor other first-generation students. This can be a paid or volunteer position. We are looking for an empathetic and genuine student that would like to give back to their TRIO community. Training will be provided.
Your duties and assignments for this position are as follows one-on-one meetings with new TRIO students in the program. You will be advising in academic as well as providing social and emotional support. In addition, you will be working with a team of peer mentors and advisors to create intentional workshops for students to improve their cultural awareness and advocacy, academics, and interpersonal skills. There may be additional duties as directed and opportunities.
Students will receive training on how to mentor a cohort of 6-10 students. Build on their knowledge of life skills such as time management and goal setting. In addition, learn soft skills in active listening and rapport building.
No additional safety information to provide. Students are trained on referrals, confidentiality, and remote hours are during supervisor hours to ensure support is available to the mentor.
