Opportunity Summary 

We are able to take one intern for the Summer (start July), Fall (start Sept) and Spring(start Jan). All applicants can request information and apply through our internship e-mail pshrti@dsh.ca.gov

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Intern will learn how to facilitate assessments, document assessments and progress notes, write and facilitate lesson plans, identify treatment objectives and document towards them, work with an interdisciplinary team to develop treatment plans, plan, organize and facilitate activities for patients. In addition, students will be able to conduct thorough chart review and case study, plan and facilitate a large event and develop special project for the facility. Our goal is to prepare our students to work as a Recreation Therapist regardless of the facility or population.

Opportunity Training 

All students receive New Employee Orientation prior to working or interacting with patients. Students are assigned a primary and secondary supervisor in which they will be shadowing and having direct supervision and feedback on the above. In addition, the student meets regularly with the internship coordinators as a follow up and to receive additional follow up and training.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

DSH-Patton is a fully secured facility, students have training on safety protocols, wear personal alarms and never provide treatment alone.
