Opportunity Summary 

This is the description for the Guest Curator Position (this is one of 3 different positions) We are currently looking for Guest Curators who would like to plan and execute one or more of the 6 exhibits that the Sun Gallery puts on each year. The internship would include curating the show from start to finish, writing the press release and working with local papers to submit it, designing the postcard, handling all correspondence with the artists, reaching out to potential artists on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites, sending out contracts, hanging the show, holding an artist reception and greeting the guests and artists. The intern would have the support and guidance of the current Executive Director and Executive Administrative Assistant.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

By the end of the internship a student will have learned the basic operations of a small local art gallery, which may include teaching art to children, being part of a field trip tour and leading tours, or if working in an administrative capacity, the student will understand the basic reports, grants, lists, and possibly accounting methods of a small business, if this is an accounting/bookkeeping internship. If a marketing internship, the student will understand the roles that social media and marketing play in the operations of a small business.

The Sun Gallery is a safe and pleasant atmosphere where instruction is always given to staff, interns, and volunteers about any possible safety issues that could come up in any of the tasks that are given.
