Opportunity Summary 

ATs receive mentorship and coaching to practice and strengthen teaching skills while learning and exploring pathways to enter educational careers. ATs participate in professional development focused on classroom instruction and planning, developing relationships with students, and learning how to support the development and social emotional skills of middle school students. This is a six-week position: one week of faculty training and five weeks teaching middle school students using project-based curriculum and culturally responsive pedagogies grounded in restorative practices. All Aim High summer staff also have the opportunity to participate in online training before the start of the summer program.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

To develop a deeper understanding of the practice of culturally responsive pedagogies, developing project-based lessons, and creating a safe-learning environment grounded on restorative practices. In addition support with classroom environment: lesson material setup, leading team builders and small group instruction. Finally, Co-lead advising groups, work to create a positive environment and strong relationships with students and colleagues.

Opportunity Training 

Student will receive a week long training before students arrive to our campus. Students are also offered additional training before this week of training that is offered on our site. During this week long training the student will get help with classroom management, developing lesson plans, and how to maintain a safe learning environment.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

A LOCKDOWN DRILL is an emergency response used when a school is faced with an extremely violent situation, armed intruders, active shooters, an on-campus hostage situation, or when there is police activity in the general area that could threaten the lives of students and staff. When a LOCKDOWN is initiated, it means that there is an immediate and possibly life-threatening situation ON CAMPUS. A LOCKDOWN requires locking doors, windows, and barricading as necessary to block entry to a campus facility, a classroom or to an office.
