Opportunity Summary 

Having the opportunity to be mentored and assisted by the Oakland Police Department for individuals who are interested in successful law enforcement careers.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

By the end, individuals will have a comprehensive understanding of how law enforcement operates and the numerous opportunities it has to offer.

Opportunity Training 

The driving instructors will provide driving training as a cadet to see how it feels to get behind the wheel of a police car.

Opportunity Application Instructions 

The application can be found at opd-careers.us/opd-cadets. Must possess a valid unrestricted California driver's license, at least 17.5 but no older than 20.5 at the time of appointment, and must be a high school senior or attending college. In college, the student must have been in good standing at an accredited community college, junior college, college, or university. After applying, you will be invited to do a test, a physical agility test, and an oral interview. Once you successfully pass, a background investigator will be in contact with you. After this process, you will be required to do a physical examination. Once you completed the whole process, you will be given a start date to start the program.
