Opportunity Summary 

As a part of Hayward PD's Criminal Investigations Bureau, these students will be able to work 10-20 hours/week on cold cases, investigations, forensic science, and anything related to these topics. The opportunity to review case files, explore new investigative abilities and or tactics and learn new skills will all benefit the City of Hayward and the students simultaneously. These students are able to work for a semester, until the end of summer, or the calendar year. If one student leaves or an opening arises, there will be more students given the opportunity. The grant runs from January 2024 to December 2025, and CSUEB will be applying for more grants to be able to fund more students.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Students should learn skills in cold case review, the investigative process, forensic capabilities and new upcoming technologies, community engagement, and hopefully, the satisfaction of bringing closure to victims or victims' families in the wake if tragedy.

Opportunity Training 

All training will be firsthand and on-the-job.
