Interns will gain on-the-job experience under the guidance of experienced professional engineers, architects, and surveyors while participating in various activities in the assigned discipline. Disciplines include: Engineering (Architectural, Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Geotechnical, Mechanical, Structural, Transportation and Water Resources Engineering), Architecture , Construction Management , Project Management, Land Surveying and Landscape Architecture. They will gain knowledge skills and abilities applicable to their discipline and area of focus. For example I the Engineer discipline, interns will learn the basic Knowledge of: Principles, practices, and methods of engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and/or transportation); construction, maintenance, and repair methods and procedures; research techniques, report writing, and statistical analysis. Trained on the basic ability and skill to: Prepare engineering designs, plans, details, and drawings manually or using AutoCAD; prepare cost estimates; perform mathematical calculations; gather data for analysis; use engineering computer software; maintain an effective working relationship with a variety of people; communicate effectively orally and in writing; understand, explain, and apply pertinent laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances. The intern will be paired with a supervisor and additional professional support at varying job levels throughout the duration of their internship. They will be trained in their respective discipline and area of focus they have been assigned to and in the scope of work they will be expected to perform.
The interns will receive safety training as part of their orientation. For site specific safety, the interns will receive direct instructions from the site director/manager and/or their supervisor.
