Opportunity Summary 

The purpose of this internship is to expose interns to the Superior Court of Alameda County to provide them with a holistic view and understanding of court operations and the work the Court does providing access to justice to the public. Interns will receive mentoring from their supervisor(s) and other team members.

Learning Outcomes Upon Completion of Internship: • Developing skills: Interns can improve their research and writing skills, as well as their soft skills. • Learning courtroom procedures: Interns can learn about courtroom procedures, legal etiquette, and professional conduct. • Observing effective advocacy: Interns can observe court proceedings and see what effective advocacy looks like in practice. • Career exploration: Interns can evaluate if a legal career aligns with their strengths and interests. • Gaining mentorship: Interns can gain mentorship and experience success before going into the workforce. • Improving time management: Interns can improve their time management strategies. • Developing organizational skills: Interns will assist with filings, data entry, and projects. • Improving social skills: Interns can improve their social and interpersonal skills

Opportunity Training 

Interns will be required to participate and complete an onboarding orientation that adheres to compliance requirements and regulations. Interns will also participate in professional development workshops led by a staff in Human Resources.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

The Courts is an official place of business, particularly related to an office setting. Everyone is expected to use good judgement and common sense to stay safe. The Courts has a Risk Manager to assist with specific safety trainings.
