Shimmick is actively seeking a highly motivated Northwest Field Engineer Intern for employment in our Northwest Division. Location is to be determined, but will be in Northern California. Expected start is May or June, 2025 with an end date in August or September pending the academic schedules. Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study

The tasks associated with being a field engineer for a civil construction project, including blueprint interpretation, RFIs, PO submission, project scheduling, drawing review and working with trades.
Performing assignments that require the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria’s to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities. Exercising judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives Preparing engineering related calculations and developing drawings and visual aids Assisting with field inspections to evaluate the work performed and materials used Assisting with construction administration and documentation of deficiencies and deviations from plans Working under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member Researching and compiling project information for reporting, marketing, and funding requests Creating and maintaining centralized files for project records (including digital) Coordinating logistics and meetings for Vice President and project managers Attending and taking minutes for the development team as requested Helping in the preparation of reports, including monthly development reports Assisting with community outreach duties as needed Attending neighborhood, community, and project meetings Undertaking tasks as may be assigned by the Vice President or project managers Having a clear understanding of the budget and assist in the creation of and adherence to project and development budgets
