The Project Engineer Intern will work directly alongside project coordinators and field leadership on active construction projects. Responsibilities include RFI and submittal tracking, bid document review, field documentation, quantity takeoffs, and subcontractor coordination. Interns gain hands-on exposure to government contracting processes, certified contractor operations, and project lifecycle management from preconstruction through closeout. This is a field-integrated role — expect time on job sites. Intern will participate in CAP16's structured Field Literacy training program. Training covers core construction fundamentals, including project documentation, RFI and submittal processes, subcontractor coordination, field observation protocols, and government contracting standards relevant to the DC/MD/VA market
For any site visits or field activities, interns will receive a site-specific safety orientation before entry, be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including a hard hat, safety vest, and steel-toed boots, and will remain under direct supervision of a CAP16 project coordinator or field manager at all times.
