Recreation Therapy InternshipAt — Conejo Recreation & Park District
To provide an opportunity for students to gain practical work skills and experience in a community-based, Therapeutic Recreation setting.
1. To learn about various sensory and non-sensory disabilities and their implications.
2. To gain an understanding of, and an appreciation for, the concept of community-based Therapeutic Recreation programs.
3. To gain an understanding of the general recreational needs of persons with disabilities.
4. To develop and utilize program planning, implementation, and evaluation skills.
5. To develop effective oral and written communication and public relations skills.
6. To learn how to organize and produce publicity materials.
7. To develop time management skills.
8. To develop and apply assessment skills.
9. To learn data collection and record-keeping methods.
10. To develop leadership and supervisory skills.
11. To participate in in-house staff meetings.
12. To develop a knowledge of community recreation resources and opportunities.
13. To plan, implement and evaluate a special program, event, or project.
14. To identify and evaluate personal assets and skills.
15. To develop a sense of professionalism.
Orientation of the student will take place the first two weeks of the internship. During this time, students will have the opportunity to become familiar with Conejo Recreation and Park District and the Therapeutic Recreation program. The first week the intern will set, in writing, goals and objectives to be met during the internship.
Intern will be working with individuals with disabilities who may have occasional behavioral challenges.
