Program Information

Sustain U is a committee established by Lee Johnson, a former Recycling Center Coordinator, under the University Student Union (USU) Board of Trustees. Its main objective is to provide sustainable recommendations for Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) and USU. Since its establishment, Sustain U has grown significantly and has taken on various initiatives. This includes hosting monthly outreach meetings, educational workshops, sustainable cooking demonstrations, "Trash Talkers Tabling," and collaborating with different departments involved in CSULB Zero Waste Plan. In July 2017, Sustain U played a crucial role in the passing of the Policy on Sustainability by the ASI Board of Control. This ensures that environmental sustainability is prioritized in ASI operations. Sustain U is the primary resource for Long Beach State students looking for sustainability initiatives and is actively working towards creating a greener world through the Grow Beach Garden located by the central plant and Friendship Walk.

All students, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation, are open and welcome to participate.
