Program Information

Some Service Learning Courses focus on civic engagement through political and social action, advocacy, voting, and other forms of civic engagement. CSULB - Civic Engagement lists certain types of civic engagement, such as grassroots responses to an immediate but short term issue, or political campaigns occuring during a particular election cycle. These may not fit within any particular community organization and may reflect a particular political or social value or belief. Because of this, no student can be required to serve in these types of Service Learning opportunities. Alternative Service Learning Sites should be available for placement.Civic Engagement opportunities may include doing neighborhood canvassing, staffing information tables in public locations, voter registration, attending civic meetings (e.g., local city council meetings, public hearings), and/or attending public events (e.g., town halls, rallies, health fairs).
