Mentoring a Touch From Above (MATFA)
MATFA is a non-profit whose mission is to train and support mentors to help incarcerated individuals in our program acquire skills for successful and positive reentry into society. We're always looking for volunteers and interns to help mentor and advise at-risk youth, students, and adults. MATFA works directly inside juvenile detention centers and state prisons to serve as a positive influence and a resource to our community members behind bars. One of our long-term goals includes reducing America’s staggeringly high recidivism rate. Our short-term goals include impacting the lives of those around us with compassion and respect.
Because there will be opportunities to work with incarcerated community members, there are risks associated with visiting prisons and juvenile detention centers. However, prior training and safety precautions are always given.
