Organization Description

The Catalina Island Conservancy has a stated mission of being a responsible steward of the land on Catalina Island through a balance of conservation, education, and recreation.

Program Information

Designed to fulfill requirements of the Bio 494 course.
This internship involves travel to Catalina Island and working with employees and other interns at the island to support the Catalina Island Conservancy's threefold mission of conservation, education, and recreation. Activities in this internship will focus on the conservation mission and may include assisting with the botanical program (e.g., sorting seeds, repotting plants, invasive species removal, exclosure inspection and maintenance), assisting with the animal program (e.g., monitoring of foxes, shrews, bats, bison, deer), and assisting with general conservancy tasks (e.g., sign maintenance, trail clearing, construction). Exact duties will be arranged with volunteer coordinating employees at Catalina, but must include some biological tasks for course credit.

Health & Safety

Activities may include outdoor fieldwork, driving vehicles, lifting heavy objects, manual labor, and use of scientific equipment.
