Fred Brown Recovery Services (FBRS) is a non-profit 12-step based social model for the treatment of chemical dependency. We have been serving Los Angeles South Bay communities for over 35 years, helping thousands of people and their families recover from substance use disorder (SUD) and the disease of addiction. The substance use disorder counseling internship program is a 3-month long mentored internship providing individuals with continuing education in substance use disorders while gaining hands-on experience with our inpatient and outpatient facilities. During this 13-week program, interns will be teamed up with licensed SUD counselors for training and support for the duration of the program. Interns are expected to complete our comprehensive multiculturally focused educational program which includes skills based application of different SUD theories, treatment and intervention strategies, engage in discussions with peers about materials, and build up their skill sets and competency in the field. Interns will be challenged to think critically in these educational sessions and will be expected to demonstrate their acquired skills when working directly with patients. Feedback sessions with designated counselors and program managers will help us better meet the educational and experiential needs of interns and ensure interns are progressing throughout the program.
