It is our mission to provide educational services to the underserved communities of the metro Los Angeles area, in the instruction of sustainable living from organically raised food.

Program Information

IGH Gardens is open for students to learn the essentials of growing sustainable, organic food for the Long Beach community. We host a variety of opportunities including gardening, supporting on-site produce farmers markets and other events, and the development of materials for social media/communications. 

About us: IGH Gardens first planting began in September 2014, by Charles Southward to serve the Salvation Army Bell Shelter. Beginning on 1,150 sq ft of land at the shelter, IGH gardens is now located in North Long Beach on 3 acres of land and is a “teaching garden” that continues to donate proceeds to the homeless with special attention to women and children shelters in the metro Los Angeles area. The garden produces in excess of 3,900 lbs annually and we're always open to welcome gardeners at any experience level with an enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn.

All students, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation, are open and welcome to participate.

Health & Safety

We work directly with seniors in underserved communities and low-income families in the Carmelitos Housing area of North Long Beach. 

There is more than one supervisor on site at a time while students are on the farm working with various garden equipment and getting hands on experience in the soil.
