While providing exemplary animal care, Monterey Zoological Society is dedicated to providing an entertaining yet educational and conservation minded experience which fosters public awareness and respect for all wildlife.
Students will work alongside keepers to help care for our exotic animal collection and participate in outreach programs to educate the community about the animals and their unique attributes.

Requirements:
- Must be 18 or older
Students will always be partnered with a keeper to shadow for the duration of their responsibilities.
Each task shadowed will receive a full physical training on how to complete the task and explanations for why things are done a certain way.
Outreach/Tours student will be given the opportunity to observe and shadow several examples before performing the tour themselves with a keeper alongside them.
Students will be working around people and animals, and will be held to the same standards of safety as employees.
KNOWN HAZARDS: This placement requires working with hazardous materials, heavy equipment, construction equipment, heights, or heavy machinery.
Properly diluted and handled cleaning chemicals are used on property by staff and volunteers. There are sometimes construction equipment on property-when repairs are needed or new projects are being built- and often large machinery (tractors) being used around the property. volunteers are not expected to be directly interacting with either.
