Building Healthy Communities

Organization Description

The Building Healthy Communities (BHC) plan for East Salinas (Alisal) is a community driven project, grounded in a strong advocacy and active partnerships between residents, private organizations, and public agencies.  BHC participants can work together to transform the environments  where East Salinas residents live, work, and play into places that support health and healthy behaviors. 
 

Program Information

The project is Ciclovia Salinas:  Working with youth empowerment, community organizing, business students for marketing, graphic design for publicity, social equity students for community empowerment & community relations. 

Health & Safety
  • This organization DOES have a formal volunteer process in place
  • Service learning students ARE eligible to sign-up as volunteers
  • Students Will NOT work unsupervised with clients
  • CBO WILL maintain student’s emergency contact info
  • CBO DOES have general liability insurance policy
  • CBO WILL NOT cover worker’s compensation for service learners
  • There ARE NO specific health and/or safety risks associated with the student’s specific work assignment
  • There IS NO a history of violence, environmental hazards or other health and safety risks on the site

Specific Recommendation:  Do NOT leave office alone; walk with someone to your car.
