Organization Description Learning for Life is an independent study charter school (non-profit organization) for 7-12th grade students who have not found success in traditional schools or need a more flexible arrangement. Student population ranges from 150-190 total students, 80% or more of our student population are designated as “high risk” students (expelled, homeless, foster, truant, credit deficient). Most of our students face significant personal and/or family issues.
Services include middle and high school education. There are 5 full time teachers, 4 half-time teachers, two part-time student advocates, School Counselor, School Psychologist, School and Community Liaison, Special Education Case Manager and School Director. Students are on campus for in person learning weekly Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays.
Program Information Under the supervision of the School Community Liaison and School Counselor, and with the direction of certificated staff, performs various supportive tasks designed to facilitate the learning of students on an assigned caseload. Performs various tasks supporting school engagement, academic success, and connection to social services available to students and families; referring families to services provided on-site and by other agencies; and fostering an ongoing partnership between the home and school. Works closely with staff to improve outreach to students and families and support academic progress.
Assist both School-community liaison and School Counselor to provide basic assistance to 7th--12th grade students and their families: accessing health care, transportation, nutrition, housing assistance, employment, College and Career Readiness, FAFSA, college applications, planning college visits, and student mentoring.
Interns will be able to assist in a variety of areas to support students both academically and personally. Interns can help facilitate the provision of basic needs for students at Learning for Life including improved nutrition, access to health/mental health services, housing, employment readiness support, and mentoring.
Assist the school's director with Nonprofit Organization and Administration (Grow the NPO side of operation, assist with the development and monitoring of our strategic plan, expand communications, and develop financial resources/grant writing).
