Organization Description

United Way of Santa Cruz County (UWSCC) envisions a community where every individual has an opportunity to succeed and Santa Cruz County thrives as a result. We are getting a little closer every day, with the help from hundreds of people throughout our community.

United Way focuses on youth wellbeing. We raise awareness surrounding key issues that affect everyone and promote social and policy change that helps strengthen people and our community.

We ignite our community to give, advocate, and volunteer so that our youth succeed in school and life, our residents are healthy and our families and financially independent. 

 

General

United Way of Santa Cruz County holds a unique role in the community – in its ability to act as a convener – bringing those with a role to play to the table to strategically address complex social issues, such as youth violence, drug and alcohol policy, criminal justice reform, and obesity prevention. United Way Interns will have the opportunity to work with various stakeholders and community members, representing: business, community-based organizations, education, faith, government, justice, public health, and, of course, youth and families.

The United Way Resource Development and Marketing intern works closely with Director of Resource Development and Marketing.  The marketing intern will support the telling of our Community Impact Stories. Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Data entry
Marketing
Social media and events outreach
Assists 211 manager with reports/resource lists

Function: Support with General Social Media Marketing. Benefit to intern: learn and gain practice in utilizing various social media platforms and data analyzation tools.

  • Utilize graphic design software to create engaging communications piece
  • Curate and schedule social media posts
  • Monitor and evaluate social media engagement using data and analytics
  • Participate in/ lead and design social media camaigns

Function:  Foundation and Grant Research. Benefit to intern: Introduction to corporate foundations and basic grant research and writing.

  • Do research and initial analysis
  • Recommend potential either for foundation money or corporate gift
  • As needed, work on application

Function:  Marketing Data Analysis & Segmentation. Benefit to intern: Understand market analysis for non-profit communications and fundraising

  • Assist in donor market segmentation. Research segments and do initial analysis on potential donors and the best way to reach that market segment

During the course of the internship, the Marketing intern will be expected to utilize and develop skills in the following programs and software:

  • Webdesign using HTML and customizable webforms
