Organization Description

The mission of Catholic Charities is to provide specified human services to the poor and disadvantaged, to promote justice, peace, human dignity, self-determination and self-sufficiency in accordance with the gospel and Catholic social justice teachings, and to cooperate with other individuals and groups of goodwill to strengthen our communities.

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Monterey, is a faith-based non-profit social service agency providing aid to individuals and families in the four central coast counties of Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito and San Luis Obispo.

We are motived by our mission to assist individuals and families of all backgrounds and beliefs providing them with tools, training and resources to help meet basic necessities for life. In addition, we provide information and referrals to social service agencies in each community we serve. Our three core areas of service are Immigration and Citizenship, Family Supportive Services, and Disaster Relief. We serve over 20,000 individuals a year. All services are offered bilingually.

Program Information

Enrollment of CalFresh, nutrition education, medical, utility assistance, and Information and referrals at the Watsonville Office: 656 Main St, Watsonville, CA 95076.

CHHS students will work with Family Supportive Services staff at the Diocese of Monterey to provide direct support services for families through assessment of needs and referrals. Activities may include assistance with updating community resources list to improve referral process/outcomes, assistance with client intakes and  assessment, assist clients in completing HEAP and CalFresh applications, and follow up with clients after services have been provided.

1. Answer and log-in phone calls; clear voicemail messages, and greet visitors. 2. Conduct client needs assessment and verify eligibility for services. 3. Assist clients with the application process to Hope in Home, Pathway to Stability as well as, CalFresh and MediCal applications. 4. Make appropriate referrals to community and government agencies. 5. Prepare complete client file in AWARDS database. 6. Attend community outreach
