The purpose of the Monterey County Behavioral Health Bureau is to enhance the social, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the residents of Monterey County. The behavioral health bureau provides an array of mental health, wellness, and substance abuse services throughout the county for both children and adults who are Medi-Cal eligible. Specific services include mental health assessments, medication evaluation/support, individual, group, and family therapy, case management, prevention and early intervention services and partnerships with many non-profits to help further the county's mission
Program Information Goal is to increase access to services to those underserved in the rural parts of Monterey County and provide referral, assessment and evaluation for mental health services.
Access CalWorks Internship:
General Description of what students will be doing at this Site: Student will be learning and performing general administration work relating to behavioral health. Student will be supporting with the development of Domestic Violence Groups, Coping skills group, as well as the development of resource guides specific to our program.
Key Responsibilities: Key responsibility will be the development of a resource guide to support clients in need of additional support. Collaboration with other community services will be essential for the development of this guide. Student will also support with the development of groups as well as the facilitation of groups that will be designed to help behavioral health clients. Student may also perform tasks directly supporting clients in need of mental health services, for example, opening new client cases and engaging clients in services.
Desired Intern Characteristics: Basic understanding of mental illness or personal experience supporting individuals in need of behavioral health services. Willingness to learn and grow in the mental health field. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Special Considerations: Student may be working with Individual's suffering from depression, anxiety, etc.
Interprofessional opportunities available for the student: Student may be eligible, after internship experience, to apply for social worker positions within Monterey County and case coordinator positions within other organizations.

Please provide details about trainings/ staff meetings offered or required:
Student will be attending biweekly staff meetings and will meet with Unit Supervisor biweekly to discuss Internship learning goals.
Intern may also attend Monterey County trainings including, but not limited to, Motivational Interviewing, Cultural Competence, Clinical documentation, etc.
Fall 21 Seeking 1-2 CHHS interns for King City to provide services and support to South County residents around wellness and recovery (mental health focus). All ages are served with a variety of mental health disorders. Specific activities for students include updating the south county resource book, update folders with community resource information, provide supervision and interaction with children waiting for parents in the office, attend meetings with staff and learn about services provided by behavioral health and collaborating agencies.
Students can sit-in for intakes, screening, and assessments and possibly help prepare and even co-lead groups. Students will also attend team meetings to learn more about how our systems work and. Periodically there are opportunities for training. There are opportunities for the exposure to evidence based therapies while meeting with the therapists and social workers. Lastly, there can be experiences in viewing and putting together data to evaluate programs and do some program planning.
