Organization Description

MPUSD is the largest school district on the peninsula serving children K-12.

All students must complete fingerprinting, TB tests and district orientation through Human Resources before starting the placement.

Program Information

Seaside Middle School provides public education for grades 6-8. School counseling services are provided to individuals and groups to facilitate personal and academic success.

Seaside Middle School interns also have the opportunity to support the AVID Program.

Goals: AVID tutors will guide students toward academic and personal excellence that will reach far

beyond their secondary school years. AVID tutors will be active participants in the learning, growth, and

personal development of students with the goal of preparing students to successfully attend college.

About AVID: Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an educational program for middle

and high school students that supports student preparation for college through an academic elective

course that teaches necessary learning skills, reinforces the academic core, and encourages rigorous

student course taking.

General Duties: AVID tutors will support middle school students enrolled in the AVID elective course

(Seaside Middle School, Los Arboles Middle School, Colton Middle School) by providing direct

instructional support to students with the assistance of an AVID elective course teacher. In addition,

they will serve as role models to students AVID tutors are critically essential to student success in the

AVID elective course and beyond!

Requirements and Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or evidence of earned college credit in the field of

education; OR successful enrollment in a science, math, human services or liberal arts Bachelor’s

program. Previous student tutoring or mentoring experience. Passionate belief in the ability of all

students to graduate college-ready. Former AVID program participation or experience working with a

school or community-based academic support program.  Effective communication skills with students

and adults.  Excellent writing skills;  Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Demonstrated

responsibility and reliability PAY RATE: $15/hour for work in elective course only.

  • Valid TB test Clearance
  • Fingerprint Clearance from DOJ (application with field staff)
  • A letter from your professor/program coordinator verifying the program you are participating in, where you are being placed and for how long.
