Program Information Our Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) Program supports newborn and pediatric medical equipment and services at Salinas Valley Health Medical Center and throughout the tri-county area. Our priority population is youth ages 0-19 in the tri-county area (Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz Counties).
One unique way to help fund these critical pediatric resources is through a peer-to-peer gaming fundraising program called Extra Life. The program allows anyone to change kids' health and change the future by playing games and fundraising year-round. Click here to learn about the Extra Life program.
All the funds collected stay local to fund pediatric needs. We fund newborn and pediatric equipment and services within Salinas Valley Health, including pediatric crash carts, incubators, comfort care items such as coloring books, teddy bears, pajamas for patients, and much more. Additionally, we fund medical needs grants for individual children living within our tri-county area for items such as mobility devices and wheelchair ramps/lifts, along with services such as art therapy, equestrian therapy, aquatic therapy, etc. that are otherwise not covered by insurance.
Under the supervision of the CMNH Program Coordinator, the CHHS intern will recruit and retain Extra Life gamers and grow the overall annual donation totals. The intern will work to achieve a specific number of participants, total funds raised, and percentage of participants fundraising.
Below are some of the responsibilities of the intern role:
- Research and reactivate lapsed Extra Life participants and encourage them to return to the program.
- Recruit new Extra Life participants by:
- Researching gaming stores and lounges, libraries, comic book stores, toy shows, and other spaces where gamers gather. Leverage findings and connections to engage gamers and establishment owners to join and promote the Extra Life program.
- Learning about local e-sports groups in high schools and colleges and sharing the Extra Life program. There is an existing group at a local university that will require stewardship.
- Contacting popular streamers and influencers to share and promote Extra Life with their online community.
- Exploring corporate Extra Life opportunities and promoting company teams. For example, create a team composed of Salinas Valley Health employees and recruit members.
- Collaborate with the CMNH Program Coordinator to execute a local fundraising gaming event at a community center, bowling alley, bingo club, escape room, laser tag, restaurant, etc.
- Attempt to secure a matching gift partner for one of the Extra Life events.
- Support Game Day participants by sending them a package with their favorite snacks and Extra Life swag for their 24-hour livestream gaming event and pop into their livestream to post appreciation messages.
- Participate in scheduled quarterly check-in meetings with participating Extra Lifers.
- Prepare monthly newsletter (Communicator) to keep lapsed and active Extra Life participants informed of Extra Life happenings and impact data.
The intern will periodically present their activities and progress towards goals at staff meetings. The presentation will include information and metrics towards the success of the goals.
The ideal candidate is outgoing, resourceful, and a critical thinker interested in program management, fundraising, philanthropy, pediatric health, marketing, data analysis, event planning, public speaking, and networking. It is a huge plus if the intern is a gamer.
Additional responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Assisting the program coordinator with the stewardship of CMNH corporate partners such as Game Stop, Ace Hardware, and others. These may include driving their vehicle to different corporate partner locations in the tri-county area. The intern may submit a form for mileage reimbursement.
- Supporting miscellaneous fundraising campaigns such as sporting equipment and toy drives, and tabling events.
- Supporting the annual CMNH All-Partner recognition event.
- Attending Foundation events and meetings.
- Collecting and counting money from the medical center’s donation boxes.
The Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Program hopes to bring greater awareness to the Extra Life program to rally a community of fundraising gamers to Change Kids’ Health. We hope that an interested intern will see the value of the program and the numerous opportunities it can bring to children in the community and join our efforts in changing kids’ health to change the future.
