Organization Description

The mission of the Monterey County District Attorney's Office is to promote justice, ensure that the rights of victims are upheld by treating them with dignity, respect and compassion, and aggressively and fairly prosecuting those who violate the law. 

Program Information

The District Attorney represents the People of the State of California in all criminal prosecutions in Monterey County. The Office is responsible for filing criminal charges, appearing in court in all felony and misdemeanor cases, and representing the People in all trials and sentencing proceedings in the courts of Monterey County. Our objective is to see that justice is done, and that criminal laws are fully and fairly enforced.

CHHS interns will have learning opportunities such as preparing for trials, writing document summaries, creating exhibit presentations and powerpoint presentations, developing spreadsheets, contact analysis, digital discovery, and anticipating a line of questioning.

General expectations for interns include:

  • Maintaining a positive relationship with their supervisor and staff

  • The ability to deal with others without creating offense

  • The ability to accept constructive criticism

  • Demonstration of reliability and responsibility

  • Exercising good judgment, using initiative and being truthful and honest

  • Volunteer/interns service can be terminated at any time by the volunteer/intern or by the District Attorney's Office
