Care & Basic Needs at CSUMB

Program Information

The Care and Basic Needs department is part of the larger umbrella of the Office of Student Life, which is overseen by the Dean of Students. The MSW interns will play a pivotal role in implementing Care & Basic Needs related support and services to all enrolled CSUMB students. Interns will report to The Director of Care and Basic Needs or MSW supervisor and will work closely other campus departments as part of the larger CARE team.

Our department is passionate about seeing our otters thrive! We support the raft by ensuring our otter’s basic needs are met through resources, access and advocacy. The interns will provide short term, solution focused non-clinical case management services to any students experiencing food or housing insecurity, or other personal wellness needs.

Interns will complete assessments during intake interview with each student to identify financial gaps in their basic needs due to personal, structural or systemic barriers. For the 25/26 academic year, we are looking for 2 MSW interns to oversee the Basic Needs Referral process and 1-2 interns to focus on social services, providing application support and developing an outreach team to increase food security among all CSUMB students.
