Harmony At Home

Organization Description

Harmony At Home provides many supportive services to children, youth, and families in Monterey County. Our Sticks & Stones program provides counseling in the schools for children who have experienced trauma and who are experiencing behaviors at home and/or at school. Our Bullying Prevention program offers support to schools to identify and address bullying incidents. We offer co-parenting classes for families in high conflict divorces, provide teen programs and summer camps, and other counseling services in our Community Counseling program to address the specific socioemotional and behavioral needs of clients who are referred.

Program Information

Harmony At Home has school based internships from August-June. We provide group based and individual counseling support to students in our Sticks & Stones program. The demographic of the clients we see are students who have been exposed to trauma and are experiencing behaviors at home and/or at school. Internship hours would most likely take place in an elementary school setting, however a middle school setting is possible for experienced interns in their second year of internship.

Interns receive weekly individual and group supervision from a licensed social worker and ongoing support from the program manager. We are also able to offer supervision for students pursuing their PPS credential.

Interns are asked to attend our yearly 4 day orientation in August to prepare for the new school year. At orientation the program, policies, and procedures are explained in depth. Outside agencies come to do trainings on specific topics relevant to the work done in the program, and interns can build relationships with other counselors in the agency. Other clinical trainings are offered throughout the school year.

Potential violence in Salinas. Sometimes schools are "locked down".

We review our policies and procedures at our annual orientation so that interns feel comfortable with working in the school setting in Salinas. Interns are also required to learn the safety protocols at their specific school sites.
