Program Information

The purpose of this field placement is to maintain and continue to evolve the Basic Needs program for students at Hartnell College through direct student support work and ongoing program expansion and research. Interns will work with individual students struggling to meet their basic needs-- food security, housing, technology, child care assistance, mental health, health & hygiene, and transportation-- by engaging with them, conducting intake and providing referrals; interns will connect students to appropriate resources depending on their area of identified need with the lens of cultural humility and respect. The intern will also assist students in navigating campus and community resources, maintain and update relevant contact and data logs, perform analysis of various Basic Needs programs, and provide feedback on improving services. Important to note, there will be opportunities for interns to also participate in clinical therapy sessions alonside a certified clinician during mental health group therapy.
