Organization Description

PCMC offers support and education to families with infants and children. We offer free and bilingual postpartum support groups for women and caregivers, including a Warmline support service for Maternal Mental Health to support parents with postpartum pressures. Additionally, we have free and low-cost parent education programs that encourage parental bonding and education on age-appropriate expectations.

Program Information

General Description of what students will be doing at this Site: The Parenting Connection of Monterey County (PCMC) supports and educates pregnant people and families with young children. We offer free, bilingual postpartum support groups for women and caregivers, including 1:1 support via our warmline support service. Additionally, we have free and low-cost parent education programs that encourage secure attachment between parent and child and education about age-appropriate development and milestones. We are home to Monterey County’s first and only Doula Hub, where we train and support community doulas, specifically those serving Medi-cal recipients. Our home office is located in downtown Salinas; however we offer services throughout the county.

Intern will gain skills to increase and support awareness of maternal mental health issues in Monterey County through organizational outreach and program co-facilitation.

Intern will gain skills that empower people with emotional support during pregnancy, postpartum, early parenthood to the age of 5.

Intern will gain skill in providing equitable access to resources that reduce stigma, eliminate barriers, and provide support towards building positive parent-child interaction and family wellness through education and programming from pregnancy to age five.

Key Responsibilities:

-Co-Facilitate and Facilitate Family Circles in different communities throughout Monterey County. Supporting and educating pregnant people, postpartum, and families with young children 0-5.

-Support in community building, workshops, training sessions, and informational meetings through Doula Hub. Create work with the mentorship coordinator to create a mentorship framework.

-Participate in Outreach and Engagement through public events. Raise awareness of the programs and services available to pregnant, postpartum and families with children 0-5.

Desired Intern Characteristics: The ideal intern is bilingual and bi-literate in Spanish and English. Comfortable Co-Facilitating and Facilitating Family Circles, taking part in outreach events related to programming, support in parent education and Doula HUB. Able to travel to various locations throughout the county as necessary.

Special Considerations: Experience assisting mothers, parents, and or caregivers during pregnancy and the first five years after birth.
