Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula is a nonprofit healthcare provider serving the Monterey Peninsula and surrounding communities. It has grown and evolved in direct response to the changing healthcare needs of the people it serves.

Program Information

General Description of what students will be doing at this Site: We are looking for student interns who have an interest in learning more about hospice care. Some opportunities students will have will be to provide administrative support to the hospice team and the volunteer coordinator. In addition, students will be able to shadow clinical staff such as nurses and social workers, learn about the hospice philosophy and engage with hospice patients as they provide friendly (non-clinical) visits with patients and families.

Key Responsibilities: Make patient visits, Document visit summaries, Submit visit notes in a timely manner, Track visit duration and mileage, Communicate any concerns with the hospice team

Interprofessional opportunities available for the student: Students have the opportunity to lead workshops, faciliate support groups, assist with data analysis.

Please provide details about trainings/ staff meetings offered or required:
Students will have the opportunity to join a thorough orientation and training as they onboard.
Students will have access to learning workshops every other month.
Students will attend weekly Interdisciplinary meetings at the Hospice office.
Students will meet with mentor 1x a week.
