Organization Description

MPUSD is the largest school district on the peninsula serving children K-12.

All students must complete fingerprinting, TB tests and district orientation through Human Resources before starting the placement.

Program Information

General Description of what students will be doing at this Site: School counselors play a vital role in supporting students’ academic, social, emotional, and college/career development. As an intern with MPUSD, you will be placed on a site to shadow and support one of their school counselors and assist in a variety of activities as deemed relevant and necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

Observe individual and group counseling sessions

Assist in developing social-emotional learning (SEL) activities

Support students with behavioral, emotional, or academic challenges

Learn about crisis intervention techniques and referrals

Help plan and implement school-wide wellness or awareness campaigns (e.g., anti-bullying, mental health awareness)

Assist in organizing career days, college readiness events, or school assemblies

Participate in character education or peer mentoring programs

Lead classroom lessons on topics like conflict resolution or goal-setting (with supervision)

Support students in setting academic or personal goals

Desired Intern Characteristics:

Interested in the educational environment and able to work with both students, staff, and families in supporting student success.

Willingness to provide some public speaking (i.e. classroom/staff presentations, parent presentations, etc.) and interest in shadowing school counselors in their day to day work with encompasses a varietyof tasks.  

Interprofessional opportunities available for the student: include ongoing collaboration with various school site staff, parents, administrators and community stakeholders.

Health & Safety

  • Completed Volunteer form (application with field staff)
  • Valid TB test Clearance
  • Fingerprint Clearance from DOJ (application with field staff)
  • A letter from your professor/program coordinator verifying the program you are participating in, where you are being placed and for how long.

ADA requirements: ability to stand and sit for periods of time
